Social media can be a wonderful tool in just your regular everyday life. The unfortunate side of social media is that it allows individuals to hide behind a keyboard or a computer screen or a phone so you don’t actually know who you’re talking to.
We’ve had a large number of cases and clients walk into our office who were communicating with somebody online thinking that they were talking to one person and learning later that they were talking to someone else, someone who ultimately made accusations and our client ended up getting investigated or in some cases, even charged.
So the dangers of social media are many. But one thing to watch out for and to make sure of is that you always know who you’re talking to. If you don’t know who the person is on the other end of your screen or keyboard, then you shouldn’t communicate with them.
And you definitely shouldn’t have conversations that could wind up getting you accused or charged with a crime.
